My only complaint is the price. $399 for both Hyperresearch and Hypertranscribe seems like a lot of money. I will be holding on that purchase for a bit.

Hyperresearch was the best choice for a Mac user such as myself. It appears to have all of the features that you would need for coding and analyzing your data, and they make a transcription software as well. Coding features mesh with a chronological organization of your entries that can also overlap between different projects. Most important, you can use it on a Mac OS X.

Concept mapping

I experimented with the concept mapping software VUE . Not only is concept mapping useful to visualize a landscape of ideas, literally mapping geographies of stuff you know or stuff you need to know, but VUE adds the aspect of making it a hyperlinked document. You can export your maps as jpegs, or as html. With html you could use the map nodes as hyperlinked gateways to all sorts of links, video, etc. There are also ways to view and animate the map in that you can layer maps, navigate maps, and expand nodes in the maps.
